On Friday, the 22nd of January, the AEclipse Development Economics Committee is organising a Winter Symposium on Chinese and European investments in Africa, how they differ and what implications this has.
During this online symposium, professionals from the field will share their knowledge of the topic by means of presentations and workshops.
The first presentation is provided by the FMO, the Dutch Entrepreneurial Bank. This is a Dutch development bank based in The Hague that manages funds for the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs of the Dutch Government. Representatives of the FMO will talk about their work in Africa and present a case about a real-life investment decision. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions to a local representative in Africa.
The second speaker will be David Dollar, a leading expert on China’s economy. He worked for the World Bank, where he was country director for China and Mongolia. Afterwards, he was the US Treasury’s ambassador to China. David will share his knowledge of Chinese investments in Africa.
We will conclude with a discussion session. We will discuss the differences in investment strategies and the implications this has
