Spring Symposium: Economics of Migration

On the 29thof March the International Research Project (IRP) Committee will be hosting a symposium regarding the economics of migration.

The symposium will take place between 13.30-16.30 in CB-3. The symposium is aimed for students to get acquainted with professionals in the field of migration management and to acquire knowledge regarding migration policy development. Topics related to migrant entry policies, migrant integration and migrant labor market participation will be discussed from an academic, public and practical perspective. The symposium will consist of guest lecturers, and will be finalized by a panel discussion. Participating parties and scholars include:

–      The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs

–      The Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs

–      SamendoorSamen (an executive organization that supports migrants in Rotterdam during their integration process).

–      Anna Baiardi

Furthermore, SamendoorSamen will potentially invite a former/current refugee to the event. He/she will then be given the opportunity to tell about his/her journey and his/her struggles encountered along the way.

Prior to the symposium, a workshop will take place between 9.30 and 13.00 in C1-1.

The workshop will be provided by Trinomics. The workshop will provide students with insights regarding public consulting, based on a case study.

Trinomics has consulted the European Union on the effects of the circular economy narrative on the European labor market. Though, this case study does not relate to migration it does provide students with the opportunity to think outside their comfort-zone.
