Sharing is caring?
The sharing economy is booming. Uber, Airbnb and Peerby are just some examples of sharing economy companies that have evolved rapidly in just a few years. Some say this new business structure offers opportunities, as it may be a more sustainable way of consuming. Nonetheless the sharing economy also presents challenges. Is it unfair competition with existing companies? Is the sharing economy a hype or is it here to stay? Is it really a more sustainable alternative?
On the Economist Day we take a closer look at these questions. We start the day by a workshop of ‘Thuisafgehaald’, a Dutch sharing economy business, where we dive into the challenges they currently face and broader questions. After the free lunch we will try to forecast the future of the sharing economy in a panel discussion. Experts from different fields will share their view on this trending topic, among others Toon Meelen (University Utrecht), Robin Fransman (economic columnist), Duco Hoogland (member of the Dutch parliament, PvdA) and Prof. Dr. Derk Loorbach (DRIFT & Professor of Socioeconomic Transitions at Eramsus University Rotterdam), all under the watchful eye of our moderator Sandra Phlippen (editor-in-chief ESB).
You can attend the whole day, but also only the morning or afternoon program. Please indicate what you will be attending below!
