Waarde leden,

De wisseling is nog maar net geweest of de eerste digitale pApErclipse is alweer een feit. Aan mij de eer om dit eerste voorwoord te schrijven.

AEclipse heeft een zwaar jaar achter de rug. Het 12^e bestuur heeft hard gewerkt om het jaar zo goed en zo kwaad als het ging tot een succes te maken. Volgens de deelnemers waren het Erasmus Advies Project (EAP), de citytrip naar Genève en het International Research project (IRP) naar Rusland een groot succes! Aan ons als 13^e bestuur de mooie en uitdagende taak om het komende jaar nog mooier te maken dan het voorgaande.

Welke vijf mensen deze mooie uitdaging aannemen kunt u lezen in deze editie. In deze editie zullen elk van de vijf nieuwe bestuursleden zich kort aan u voorstellen.

Verder vindt u in deze editie een verslag van de eerste activiteit, de master-introductieborrel, en blikken we vooruit naar het Erasmus Advies Project.

Rest mij enkel nog u veel leesplezier te wensen en ik hoop u spoedig te mogen ontmoeten op een van onze activiteiten.

Voorzitter 13^e bestuur van AEclipse

Eindelijk was het dan zover! Waar oud, nieuw ontmoet, de ene verklaart en de ander belooft, tradities in eer worden gehouden en de dassen bij sommigen om de oren vliegen, vond op dinsdag 23 september de Algemene Leden Vergadering (ALV) van studievereniging AEclipse plaats. Voorafgaand aan dit feestelijk gebeuren troffen de leden van het oude en het nieuwe bestuur elkaar aan bij eetgelegenheid Hoofdstuk ll . Met muziek van onder meer Frank Sinatra als decor konden verhalen van het verleden jaar zich afwisselen met prognoses voor het nieuwe jaar en kon dit lichtelijk emotionele moment worden weggespoeld met een hapje en een drankje.

Voor het acht uur werd begaf het bestuur zich naar Locus Publicus waarvan de bovenruimte was gereserveerd voor de ALV. Met een enkele vroege gast als versterking kon de tap worden opengegooid en werden de voorbereidingen getroffen voor wat komen ging. Beetje bij beetje stroomde de ruimte vol maar niet voordat een ieder moest tekenen in het, door beoogde secretaris mevrouw Chong ferm aangeklemde gastenboek.

Om half tien opende de heer Olvers de ALV met de mededeling dat de cascomissie het financieel jaarverslag nog niet had gekeurd waardoor het niet aan de ALV kon worden voorgelegd. De heer Olvers zei toe binnen een maand het jaarverslag goedgekeurd te krijgen waarna het nieuwe bestuur zich zal inschrijven bij de Kamer van Koophandel.

Met de traditioneel kritische vragen werden de notulen van de Halfjaarlijkse ALV en de resultaten van het afgelopen jaar door de vergadering gehamerd. Als wind in de zeilen zorgde het rijkelijk vloeiende bier voor een prettige vaart.

Rond half twaalf konden de beoogde bestuursleden zich om beurten voorstellen aan de ALV en verklaren wat hun hobby’s en bezigheden zijn. Opvallend was daarbij het hoge gehalte puzzellaars in het bestuur.

En dan, voor iedereen het wist sloeg een hamer een stilte in het gezellige geroezemoes en was het af voor Bestuur 2007-2008 en aan voor Bestuur 2008-2009.  Primus inter pares, de eerste onder zijn gelijken, heer Dam trakteerde als kersverse voorzitter de ALV nog op een korte maar krachtige Beleidsrede en sloot hierna de ALV.

De gasten waren tevreden. Het jonge bestuur beklonk met een shot tequila een nacht van feestelijkheid en een jaar van hoogtepunten.

Beste lezers,

Afgelopen 18 september was de eerste activiteit waar AEclipse aanwezig was. Dit was de master-informatiemiddag die samen met de sectie van algemene economie is georganiseerd. De master-informatiemiddag was er voor om de studenten (EMOP en IEBS) meer informatie te geven over praktische zaken van de master. Daarnaast was er de mogelijkheid om de docenten en medestudenten een beetje te leren kennen tijdens de masterborrel achteraf.

De middag begon met een lang, maar erg interessant verhaal van dhr. drs. J. Oosterwijk over de Nederlandse arbeidsmarkt. Daarna was er een korte, doch zeer informatieve presentatie van dhr.  dr. Josse Delfgauw (EMOP) en dhr. dr. Leon Bettendorf (IEBS) over de twee masters. Hierin werden praktische dingen uitgelegd over de vakken, tentamens, seminars en de masterthesis. Als afsluiting was er een presentatie van AEclipse. De voorzitter, dhr. Evert Dam, gaf een presentatie over waar AEclipse voor staat en welke activiteiten er gepland staan voor het komende jaar.

Na het informatieve programma was het tijd voor de masterborrel in Sienna. Ook hier was de opkomst groot. De studenten, docenten en het bestuur van AEclipse leerde elkaar kennen onder het genot van een hapje (waarvan de meeste lekker, behalve de rotte tomaat) en een drankje. Uiteindelijk is het een zeer geslaagde middag geworden met een grote opkomst, veel nieuwe leden en een veel grotere bekendheid van AEclipse!

Het Erasmus Advies Project (EAP) is al jarenlang een prestigieus project voor bachelor studenten, die een scriptie willen schrijven in de richting algemene economie. Studenten kunnen via dit project snel hun bachelor afronden, een hoogwaardige scriptie schrijven, optimaal voorbereid worden op de Masterthesis en bovendien meedingen naar een aardig geldbedrag.

Afgelopen jaren heeft slechts 1 onderwerp centraal gestaan waar binnen studenten hun scripties schreven. Dit jaar kunnen teams van twee studenten een keuze maken binnen een veel groter scala aan onderwerpen, waarbij elk team optimaal begeleid wordt. Immers, de begeleider is een expert op het gebied van juist dat onderwerp. De kwaliteit wordt bewaakt door een commissie, die de voortgang van de verschillende teams waardeert.

Uiteindelijk wordt de scriptie met een symposium afgesloten in mei 2009, waarbij elk team zijn scriptie zal presenteren aan een jury bestaande uit prominente namen uit het bedrijfsleven. Voor het beste team staat de prof. Lambersprijs klaar en een geldbedrag van 1000 euro.

Dear members,

We’ve only just been installed and the first digital version of the pApErclipse is already here. The honour is mine to write this first preface.

AEclipse has had a tough year. The 12^th board has worked hard to make this year as big a success as possible. According to the participants were the Erasmus Advies Project (EAP), the city trip to Geneva and the International Research Project (IRP) to Russia a big success! For us as 13^th board stands the beautiful and challenging task to make the coming year even better than last year.

In this edition you can read which five persons will take on this challenging task. Each of them will briefly introduce themselves to you in this edition.

Further more, you’ll find a report on our first activity, the master-introduction day, and we look ahead to this years EAP.

I hope you enjoy reading this pApErclipse and I hope to meet you soon at one of our activities.

1. Name? Evert Dam
2. Age? 22
3. Year of studies? Bachelor economics and business economics
4. What is your function in the AEclipse- board? Chairman
5. How would you describe yourself? I would describe myself as an enthusiastic person, who can be very serious too. I don't avoid hard work and I think of myself as a person who can motivate others.
6. How did you join the board of AEclipse? I came in contact with the AEclipse through the Erasmus Advies Project. Later on Jannec the chairman of last year asked me if I would be interested in a position on the board of AEclipse.
7. What inspires you? A nice cold beer. The beer will taste better, because I've earned it after a day hard work.
8. If you could do just one thing in your life, what would this be? A few years ago I went to Russia. The country really inspired me, especially Siberia. I would love to go back to learn more of the lifestyle and culture there. So it would be a trip  through Siberia.
9. What are your goals in life? Not have to worry about if things are possible, but just do the things I want to do in life. Freedom is very important for me.
10. After a year on the board of AEclipse… I would be tired, but very pleased, with lots of new experiences and beautiful stories for later on in life.

5. How would you describe yourself? I would describe myself as a serious, loyal hardworking person, who also can relax and have fun. I
6. How did you join the board of AEclipse? I replied on a email with the message that AEclipse was looking for board members.
7. Where did you learn the most? I think everywhere and every day you come across new experiences which you learn of.
8. What is your motto of life?  Do the things, which make you most happy.
9. After a year on the board of AEclipse… I'd experience a lot of new things and had lots of fun with my board members.

4. What is your function in the AEclipse- board? Treasurer
5. How would you describe yourself? Because naming your own qualities and values is not very objective I would prefer to name the things I appreciate: loyalty, friendship and family spontaneity, creativity.
6. How did you join the board of AEclipse? Last year I participated in the International Research project. After I mentioned that I was interested in a board position without telling that I would prefer to become treasurer. A few weeks later I was approached for this position it was a positive surprise.
7. How did you chose your studies?  I am studying International Business Administration. I chose this study because I was interested in learning in an environment with students from all over the world and being prepared for an international career.
8. What are your ambitions? After mu bachelor I would like to take the MAster in Finance and Investments. Adter this I would like to work for a Western company that are doing business in Russia. To live and work in this country would also be nice.
9. Who would you like to interview? Despite this is not really possible, I would like to interview Winston Churchill. I believe he is the most inspired and exceptional politician in world history.
10. After a year on the board of AEclipse...  I hope to live of my investments.. But all jokes aside, I hope to look back at an unforgettable year filled with learning experience. And I hope to have obtained at least four friends.

4. What is your function in the AEclipse- board? Commissioner External Affairs
5. How would you describe yourself? A few words to describe myself:
   target minded, impulsive, go-getter, and perfectionist. 
6. How did you join the board of AEclipse? As a participator of the EAP project, I was approached by AEclipse to fulfil a function in the board of AEclipse. I chose this function, cause the contacts with companies and doing commercial work attracts me very much.
7. What did you want to become when you were young? I wanted to become a teacher, history teacher to be specific. My idol was a teacher who told amazing stories about crusaders and knights and so on.
8. How do you see your life after 15 years? I could be either the very busy business man or investment banker or the perfect daddy/husband, who will spend much time with wife and kids. Both are dreams of me now and possibly a combination will be the best solution.
9. If you are allowed to spend one day in someone else’s shoes, who would you choose? Bill Gates, cause I want to set a record in spending charity money.
10. After a year on the board of AEclipse... I hope that I brought AEclipse to another level in sponsoring and that I had an unforgettable year.

2. Age? 22
3. Year of studies? Master Financial economics and a part of the master Economics of Markets, Organisations and Policies
4. What is your function in the AEclipse board? Commissioner Activities
5. How would you describe yourself? I am a fifth-year student at the Erasmus University. Previously I studied at the Erasmus for my bachelor in Economics and also studied abroad for a half year for my master financial economics at BI in Oslo. I live in Delft and I am a member of the Rowing Student Society Proteus-Eretes. Here I organised among other things a big rowing competition, the PEiL. 
6. How did you join the board of AEclipse? The first time I heard about AEclipse is when I participated at the “Algemene Economen Dag” of AEclipse. After that event I checked the website of AEclipse often and I saw that they were looking for members of the Activities Committee. When I spoke with Jannec (president B12) about this committee he told me that the position of Commissioner Activities still open was. When he told me what events you have to organize as a Commissioner Activities and what was possible I was really interested.
7. What is your biggest challenge now? Recently I started with piano lessons. I have never played an instrument before so this will be a big but also fun challenge!
8. Who is your role model?  I don’t really have a role model. I think you can better live your live your own way and make your own choices than exactly make the same choices as your role model. I think though that you can be inspired by people to make certain choices but I think that will be more people than just one role model. People that inspire me a lot are my parents.
9. After a year on the board of AEclipse… I hope that we had a year with a lot of spectacular and successful activities and that everybody at the Erasmus knows who AEclipse is and what we do. Besides that I hope that I have finished my studies and that I have had a fantastic year with my board member of AEclipse.

On September 18, the Department of Economics & AEclipse organized an introduction- en information-afternoon for the EMOP and IEBS master. This meeting was intended to provide the students with some practical information. Besides that, it also provided a opportunity for the students to meet the teaching staff and their fellow students in an informal setting. 

The afternoon begun with a long but very interesting speech of drs. J. Oosterwijk, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Erasmus, about the Dutch labor market. After that their was a short but very informative speech of dr. Josse Delfgauw (EMOP) en dr Leon Bettendorf (IEBS) about the practical things in the two masters. Topics discussed were; course outline, (subscribing to) seminars, exams and the master thesis. At the end, there was a presentation of AEclipse. The chairman of AEclipse, Evert Dam, gave a speech about who AEclipse is and what we want to do next year.

After the informative program, it was time for the informal masterdrink at Sienna. Also here was the turn out very high. The students, teachers and the board of AEclipse, got to know each over some drinks and some very nice and some very bad (rotten tomatoes) foods. After all a very successful afternoon with a high turn out, a lot of new members and a high brand awareness of AEclipse.

The Erasmus Advice Project (EAP) has been a prestigious project for years. It’s concerning bachelor students who want to write their thesis in the direction of micro and macro economics. Students can finish their bachelor in a quick pace by writing a high quality thesis, and in the same be optimal prepared for their Master study. The best thesis will be rewarded with a lump sum of money.

Last years there was just 1 central topic about which the student wrote their thesis. This year the teams of 2 students can choose within a large variety of topics, whereby every team will be optimal supported. After all, the coordinator is an expert in the area of that specific topic. The quality will be guaranteed by a commission, who will value the progress of the different teams.

At last the project will be closed with a symposium in may 2009. Every team will present their thesis to a large audience and to a jury consisting of prominent names of several companies. The best team will be rewarded with the prof. Lambers trophy and 1000 euro in cash money.
