Waarde leden,

Voor u ziet u alweer de 2e editie van de pApErclipse van dit jaar. Het is alweer twee maanden sinds ik een voorwoord tot u heb mogen richten, maar het voelt alsof het veel korter is. En dat is sowieso het gevoel dat op dit moment overheerst bij mij. Het jaar vliegt voorbij! Van vergadering naar vergadering, van activiteit naar activiteit en van borrel naar borrel.

Dit neemt niet weg dat we desondanks nog steeds slechts aan de vooravond staan van een aantal hele mooie activiteiten! Op dit moment worden de sollicitatiegesprekken voor de Business Cycle Tour gevoerd en de eerste deadline van het Erasmus Advies Project is ook pas net geweest. Verder ben ik op het moment van dit schrijven in afwachting van de ledenborrel van 11 december.

Verder wil ik van deze mogelijkheid gebruik maken om u er op te attenderen dat als u interesse heeft in het zelf organiseren van een activiteit van AEclipse u te allen tijde welkom bent om langs te komen op onze kamer H8-30 om de mogelijkheden te bespreken.

Tot slot spreek ik de hoop uit u tegen te komen op een of meerdere van onze activiteiten en rest mij enkel nog u veel leesplezier te wensen met deze 2e editie van de pApErclipse.

Dit jaar gaat AEclipse voor het eerst het Europese continent verlaten om naar New York en Washington te gaan.

De deelnemers voor de BCT zijn inmiddels bekend. We zullen 24 januari 2009 met een groep van 25 studenten vertrekken naar New York. Hier zullen we 5 dagen verblijven om daarna te vetrekken naar Washington voor 2 dagen. We zullen tijdens deze reis verschillende economische instituties en multinationals bezoeken om de studenten te laten zien wat een interessante en dynamische wereld, de wereld van de internationale, algemene en monetaire economie is. De studenten krijgen hierbij de mogelijkheid om met hun potentiële toekomstige werkgever in gesprek te komen in Nederland en/of in New York. In New York zullen we o.a. de Federal Reserve Bank of New York en de United Nations bezoeken en in Washington o.a. het IMF en de Wereldbank en in Nederland bezoeken we het ministerie van financien en optiver van te voren.

Beste lezer,

Donderdag 11 december was alweer onze tweede borrel. De eerste besloten ledenborrel van AEclipse in het nieuwe collegejaar. Vanaf half tien kwamen de eerste mensen binnendruppelen in het altijd gezellige Hoofdstuk II. Al snel werd duidelijk dat we er zin in hadden! Iedereen stond gezellig te kletsen en New York was duidelijk dat wat de gemoederen bezig hield. Onder het genot van een drankje en een bitterbal keuvelden de mensen gezellig verder.

De borrel werd helaas wel verstoord. Een aantal leden van een niet nader te noemen studentenvereniging kwamen ordinair party-trashen. Nadat deze heren subtiel de deur waren gewezen konden we weer vrolijk verder. Om half 1 was de borrel afgelopen en ging iedereen met een voldaan gevoel naar huis. We hebben zin in New York en alle andere mooie activiteiten die nog komen gaan!

Op woensdag 19 november 2008 vond de kennismakinglunch van het nieuwe bestuur van de AEclipse en de capaciteitsgroep Algemene economie plaats.

Met verse broodjes en andere lekkere etenswaar was het om 12 :00 uur afwachten op de genodigden. Mensen druppelde langzaam binnen en genoten van de lunch.
Tijdens de gesprekken is er o.a. duidelijk naar voren gekomen dat het erg leuk zou zijn om de studenten vs. Docentendag ook dit jaar te houden. Wat wij natuurlijk dit jaar ook van plan zijn om te doen.

Na de lunch hebben wij veel positieve reacties gekregen. we kunnen dan ook stellen dat het een zeer geslaagde ontmoeting is geweest.

Het EAP is afgelopen maand eindelijk echt van start gegaan. 5 enthousiaste teams zijn geselecteerd op basis van hun voorstel. Op dit moment is ieder team erg druk bezig een Plan van Aanpak te schrijven. Op vrijdag 12 december is de deadline voor het Plan van Aanpak. We wensen alle teams veel succes met de verdere voortgang van hun scriptie!

Dear members,

The second edition of the pApErclipse this year is already in front of you. It’s been two months since my last preface to you, but it feels a lot shorter. Time flies when you’re having fun. From meetings to activities, from activities to social drinks. Time goes by too fast!

Although time flies by we’re still only at the beginning. Many great activities are still to come. At this moment we are conducting interviews to select people for the Business Cycle Tour and the first deadline for the “Erasmus Advies Project” was only last week. In this edition you will find short articles about these activities, as well as a summary of our latest social drink.

Furthermore I’d like to use this opportunity to make you aware of the possibility to drop by the AEclipse-room at H8-30 to talk about participating in one of our committees and to get to know AEclipse better. You are always welcome!

Last but not least I wish you a lot of fun reading this second edition of the pApErclipse and I hope to see you soon at one or more of our activities.

This year we will go over the borders of Europe to New York and Washingthon.

With a group of 25 student, are we going to stay for 5 days in New York and for 2 days in Washington. During this tour we will visit several economic institutions and multinationals, to show students the interesting and dynamic world of international and financial economics. Students will get the opportunity to meet their future employers in the Netherlands and/ or New York. In New York we will visit the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the United Nations. In Washington we will visit the IMF and the World bank. In the Netherlands we visit the Dutch ministery of Finance and Optiver.

Dear members,

On November 30 of this year!! The first social drink of the new AEclipse-year in honour of our constitution. Meaning the opportunity for AEclipse members and the boards of other student associations to congratulate the new AEclipse board. And of course to have a drink or two and chitchat with the other people there.

The social drink was at Hoofdstuk II where the new board started with a lovely dinner. Before we finished dinner and before the social drink was supposed to start, the first people were already banging on the doors. Everybody had a great time. At the end, looking at the way the previous chairman walked home said enough about the drinks. They went down easily and only made you thirsty for another one.

After our social drink, the party just started and people continued their party elsewhere. The next social drink has already been a reality and also this one was a great succes.

Dear reader,

December 11th the time had come. The first members-only social drink of the year. When the first people were coming in. It was already clear that people were looking forward to this drink. The social drink was at grand café Hoofdstuk II, which is starting to become the home base of AEclipse. Everyone chitchatting about mainly one thing, the upcoming Business Cycle Tour to New York and Washington.

Unfortunately the social drink was disrupted by a few people who decided to crash the party. After these gentlemen where escorted out the party continued. At twelve thirty the social drink was to an end and everyone went home satisfied. We are all looking forward to the next social drink and hopefully we will see you there also.

On Wednesday 19th of November 2008 was the lunch for the general economics department. Our first meeting as AEclipse board with the teachers and other employees of the department.

At 12:00 hours we were anxiously waiting in the coffee room, for the invited. During the conversations the subject “students vs. Teachers day” came up, some teachers dared us for a match and because of this, we of course must hold the “students vs. Teachers day” this year.

Afterwards we've got very enthusiastic reply from different teachers. So we may conclude that this was a very successful first meeting.

The Erasmus Advice Project has finally started last month. 5 enthusiastic teams have been selected on the quality of their proposals. At the moment every team is very busy with writing their thesis plan. Friday 12th December was the deadline for the thesis plan. We wish all the teams lots of luck with the progress of their thesis!
